venue
SALT 33 will be held on site at Yale University, in the Yale Science Building and Luce Hall. Both are located on Hillhouse Avenue, described by Mark Twain and(/or?) Charles Dickens as "the most beautiful street in America". The poster session and conference dinner will be held at Hotel Marcel, known for its iconic Bauhaus design and commitment to sustainability.
travel
Comprehensive information about getting to New Haven is available here
- New Haven is served by the NYC area airports (JFK, Laguardia, Newark) in addition to Hartford's Bradley International (BDL).
Most convenient however is the Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN, an Avelo Airlines base)
parking
Parking is free on Sundays in all of New Haven, including Yale campus. Free on-street parking is available everyday on Canner Street and north of it [see map]. Metered parking is available closer to the venue but there are time limits that make it somewhat inconvenient.
There is parking available (at the cost of $12.50) tomorrow in the Pearson Sage Garage -- if you decide to use it please call me before 9 am on 732 354 6467 to get the code. I was given the following directions and told that the entrance is on Whitney and Humphrey. I haven't checked it out myself .
On Saturday May 13 you can use LOT 22 or 16V-located before the arm gate at Lot 16 for free no need to put into the garage.
General parking information is available via the Getting to Yale website
food
The closest and cheapest options are food trucks at the intersection of Sachem and Prospect (5 minutes) as well as on Grove and Hillhouse (10-12 minutes)
Within a 10-15 minute walk are restaurants on Whitney, between Trumbull and Grove. Restaurants on State Street are similarly a 15 minute walk.
There are many restaurants downtown—around Chapel Street, Crown Street, Broadway etc— these are a good 25 minute walk. Definitely worth exploring for dinner & close to your hotels, but perhaps less ideal for lunch.
